The prevalence of substance use among individuals with Schizophrenia is much higher than in the general population. This presentation addresses the reasons behind this association and discusses treatment implications.

Dr. Alan Fine, psychiatrist, is the Medical Director of Colorado Recovery. He is the past Medical Director of Foothills Behavioral Health Partners, Aurora Presbyterian Hospital Psychiatry, and Denver Center for Mental Health Services. Dr. Fine has extensive experience in a variety of settings including inpatient, outpatient, and community mental health centers He is a member of the American Psychiatric Association and Colorado Psychiatric Society. He holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Princeton University and a medical degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.
