LGBTQ+ Specialty Group

LGBTQ+ individuals struggle with substance abuse issues at significantly higher rates than their heterosexual and cisgender counterparts. Further, substance misuse tends to begin at younger ages among LGBTQ+ youth. In addition to substance use issues, LGBTQ+ individuals face higher rates of mental health issues, and are at greater risk for suicide.
The discrimination LGBTQ+ individuals experience often impacts their ability to access health care. Further, it can be difficult for this community to find culturally competent care.
At Harmony, we recognize the importance of providing culturally competent services to the LGBTQ+ community. Additionally, we understand that this community often faces a different set of challenges in life and recovery. As such, we offer a group specific to the LGBTQ+ community to discuss issues faced by individuals in the community, as well as their unique experience of recovery. This group is a safe place for LGBTQ+ individuals to share their experiences related to the intersection of their identities and substance use, and how support and community building can look for LGBTQ+ individuals in recovery.
