A cursory review of the disease model of addiction and the scientific basis of the disease of addiction and how it relates to the neurobiology of the frontal and prefrontal cortex and the meso-limbic system will be reviewed. There will be further information presented on the neurobiology of wisdom and how it relates to healthy prefrontal cortical activity along with some of the latest research on the positive benefits of spirituality and how this can be documented with technologies to document brain functionality and recovery. This leads to a direct correlation to the actual proven benefit of the spiritual foundation of 12 step recovery.
